This module has been in use since 2002 and has been upgraded substantially since then.  It currently supports forums with over 100,000 members and millions of posts.  Of course, as you probably know, their are hardware and bandwidth requirements to meet that kind of capacity.

There really is no limit to the number of forums supported or the members in them.
